Mammals of Arboreal Mass Destruction

This year the circumstantial evidence of the past was early supplanted by direct evidence. What has been lacking this year is circumstantial evidence - signs that the beaver is working on local trees.

This morning I finally noticed what the little mischief-maker has been up to. See here - note the lower tree trunks on the extreme sides of the photo:



As a result, these once beautiful trees are now doomed:



I am not sure what should be done to control this. Ashbridge's Bay has seen major destruction of its trees, not all because of the beaver.

The trees do not simply give up - look at this poor guy, with the clear evidence of castorial nastiness:
