Tyler Cowen points to a wonderful anthropological study of the Econ.My favourite line is:
The Math-Econ make exquisite modls finely carved from the bones of walras.
A truly lovely pun.
This exercise could of course be carried out for pretty much any academic field. I wonder how many other such exercises there are.

Walras was a pioneer in using a gigantic system of equations to capture "general equilibrium" of all markets at the same time in an economy.
Axel's piece was floating around back in the early 1970s. I can't figure out what prompted Tyler to link to it now.
Thanks to eclectecon for explaining the pun.
I am not sure why Tyler posted it but I am pleased he did. I had forgotten it, but imagine I read it in the '70s, particularly as I was at Berkeley where Debreu and Steven Smale were creating the real cult of the Math-Econ.
